Ewout Pierreux
Ewout is named as one of the promising belgian young jazz pianists. He plays piano in the band of south african singer tutu puoane and in t-unit7, a new project of saxophonist Tom Van Dyck. he’s been the pianist of jazzisfaction (the quartet around german trumpet player peer baierlein) for ages now. he’s the regular pianist of a new big band project called ’tuesday night orchestra’. as a leader he has his own trio (ep3). Ewout also plays keys in the rockproject upperlip orchestra and he’s busy as a sideman in several projects, among which goddam: a tribute to ‘nina simone, a hit show in belgian and dutch theatres in 2006/2007.
This demo of Ewout playing solo piano was recorded in Studio The Location in Antwerp (sadly enough my studio does not have a nice full sized Steinway grand) and was edited and mixed at La Buanderie by Pieter Apers.
He played concerts with a.o. toots thielemans, frank vaganée, erwin vann, kurt van herck, bart defoort, bert joris, philippe aerts, dré pallemaerts, martijn vink… he played on major festivals such as the blue note festival ghent (joost zweegers sings chet baker, 2005), jazz middelheim (maria schneider big band workshop, 2001), gaume jazzfestival (jazzisfaction, 2004), park jazz kortrijk (tutu puoane quartet, 2004 and jazzisfaction, 2006), brosella (toots thielemans 4-tet, 2006), jazz in ’t park ghent (new groove sextet, 2005 and ep3, 2006) and the klara festival van vlaanderen (erwin vann invites, 2007). In 2004 he toured south africa with the tutu puoane quartet.
